A total of 400 K-12 public and charter school teachers recently had their classroom wishes granted, to the tune of $2,500 each. The Fiesta Bowl Organization is behind this, awarding a combined $1 million to teachers through its Desert Financial Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers program.

"Wishes for Teachers is well-known around the state as the preeminent program for teacher support. My mom was a teacher, and we all know teachers who inspire us with their selfless work,” said Patrick Barkley, Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors.

Three teachers in the Liberty Elementary School District were chosen for this award. 

  1. Deb Bamonte, Rainbow Valley
    • Will use the money to buy Chromebooks for her class
  2. Stephanie Fritz, Blue Horizons
    • Will use the money to buy Chromebooks for her class 
  3. Dawn Schummer, Rainbow Valley
    • Will use the money to buy equipment and materials for a hydroponic garden

The winners were chosen from a verified pool of applicants in a random drawing. Over the six years of this program, Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers has granted a total of $4.7 million to more than 1,200 Arizona teachers, impacting more than 500,000 children across the state.
