BUCKEYE, Ariz. – Newly elected Liberty Elementary School District #25 Governing Board Member Sarah Schmidt took the Oath of Office on Wednesday, December 17 at a ceremony in downtown Phoenix.

“I would like to formally congratulate and welcome Sarah Schmidt to our Liberty Elementary School District Governing Board,” said LESD #25 Governing Board President Bryan Parks. “Sarah has lived in Arizona for a decade and has been a resident within our district boundaries during that time. I look forward to the ideas she brings to our board, as we are all here to make Liberty the best it can be.”

Sarah Schmidt is originally from Wisconsin, where she attended public school from kindergarten through graduation. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Marquette University in biological sciences. Upon graduation from Marquette, she worked as a physiology researcher at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and subsequently earned her teaching certification through a post-bacc program at Cardinal Stritch University. During that time, she also taught high school for a few years. Boardmember Schmidt has a Master of Science in Biomedical Diagnostics from Arizona State University and has worked in the Genomics field for the last eight years. She currently works as a Clinical Genomic Scientist in R&D for a genetics testing company.

“I am excited to join the Governing Board of LESD 25,” said incoming board member Sarah Schmidt. “In the new year, I am excited to bring a new voice, perspective, and energy to the district. I can’t wait to get started.”

“We are thankful for Sarah Schmidt’s willingness to serve on our school board,” said LESD #25 Superintendent Dr. Cort Monroe. “She has lived within the district for a decade and brings a wealth of knowledge from her time in Wisconsin. I look forward to working with Sarah as we continue to grow Liberty.”

The Liberty Elementary School District governing board will next gather on Monday, January 13 at the Jerry Rovey District Facility for a work session beginning at 4:30 p.m. The regular board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Newly elected board members Kellie Zimmerman and Sarah Schmidt, begin their 4-year and 2-year terms respectively at this first meeting of 2025.
