BUCKEYE, Ariz. – Newly elected Liberty Elementary School District #25 Governing Board Member Kellie Zimmerman was officially sworn into office on Friday, November 22 at a ceremony in downtown Phoenix.

“I would like to congratulate and welcome Kellie Zimmerman to our Liberty Elementary School District Governing Board,” said LESD #25 Governing Board President Bryan Parks. “Kellie will be an asset to this board as a parent to four Liberty students. We are excited to have her fill our vacant seat, as we will move back to operating as a five-member board to close out 2024.”

Kellie Zimmerman has been involved with the Liberty Elementary District in many ways. Her oldest child started kindergarten nine years ago, and her youngest will begin kindergarten next year. There is nothing more important to her than students receiving a high quality, well-rounded education, along with employing teachers who feel both valued and supported.

“I was honored to receive a call last week from Maricopa County Superintendent Steve Watson, inviting me to be sworn in to fill the current vacancy on the board and begin serving my community early, before my four year term begins in January,” said newly appointed LESD #25 school board member Kellie Zimmerman. “I am deeply grateful to the voters for their overwhelming support and confidence in my election to the Liberty Governing Board. I look forward to representing our community and ensuring that our district prioritizes students in every decision. Our students and teachers are the heartbeat of Liberty, and I am dedicated to reflecting their voices and perspectives.”

Zimmerman has been a long time advocate for public education and has family ties to the industry. Her grandfather was a school principal and her mother taught special education for 40 years. Following graduation from NAU, Zimmerman taught junior high for six years. In Liberty, Zimmerman has been involved with the PTO, organized special education forums, served as the political action committee (PAC) chair during the successful passing of the 2022 override, and has been a regular attendee at school board meetings.

“We are thrilled that Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson elected to swear Mrs. Zimmerman into office prior to the end of the calendar year,” said LESD #25 Superintendent Dr. Cort Monroe. “Kellie has been a long time volunteer in this community and is a strong advocate for students and teachers. We are excited to welcome board member Zimmerman in this capacity and look forward to the future of the Liberty Elementary School District.”

The Liberty Elementary School District governing board will next gather on Monday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jerry Rovey District Facility. The board will also meet on Monday, December 16 to close out the 2024 portion of their schedule. Board member Zimmerman, as well as newly elected board member Sarah Schmidt, who will soon be sworn in for her 2-year term starting in January, will be present at the January 13, 2025 board meeting.
