At Liberty Elementary School District, we are cultivating curious, confident, problem solvers prepared for tomorrow. We serve more than 4,500 students across seven schools in Buckeye and Goodyear, Arizona. Both cities are among the fastest growing in the nation. Four-day school weeks
In an effort to continue to recruit the highest quality teachers, the Liberty Elementary School District will implement a four-day school week beginning in the 2023-24 school year. Liberty is one of only two districts in Arizona to offer this option.
The idea of a four-day week was first explored last year as a cost-savings measure in response to failing to pass a budget override. After surveying staff and families in the spring, it was clear this idea garnered initial support regardless of how much money it saved. For that reason, combined with the potential to better recruit and retain teachers in a nationwide shortage, the idea was approved for implementation.
Increased flexibility and work-life balance
The four-day school week allows teachers to retain a better work-life balance. Additional personal time will give teachers more time for professional development, to pursue activities outside of school, and keep them fresh and ready to teach every day.
Average teacher compensation package of $64,500
Liberty’s compensation package — which includes salary and a full benefits package — is $64,500. This is greater than the state average, and among the best in the Phoenix area.
In addition, for the last three years, teacher compensation has increased by 10 percent yearly.
