Section 504

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities by school districts receiving federal financial assistance. It allows for reasonable accommodations to afford the student access to educational opportunities. A student who may need special services or accommodations within the intent of Section 504 is one who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such impairment.

504 plans are managed by the student’s 504 Coordinator at their individual school.  If you believe that your child has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, please contact your child's school for assistance in the consideration, evaluation, and development of a 504 plan.
